We are all vary vary sad this week becuz my best frend Kalin -- hoo was one of my vary ferst (and vary best) innernet frends, and a charter FOS member -- wint to the Bridge. She was going to go today, but evrywun at the Bridge was vary angkshus fur her to join them, so she went on Toozday insted. My time has come to wish you a sad farewell, and to cross the Rainbow Bridge. I have not been feeling well and my health has been gradually deteriorating. My nine lives are all used up now and I cannot even control my peepee anymore. Mommy and Daddy bought me disposable diapers which I started wearing as of last night (Saturday) -- it helps. My Mommy calls me a tough little old "Ladybug". I have survived diabetes since 1/25/02 with twice-daily insulin shots; several cat fights with my brother Shabby (who became part of the family on 3/29/06); an intestinal lymphoma tumor removal on 3/2/07 and periodic chemotherapy and steroid treatments since. My Mommy tells me that I'm "spensive" but she would do anything for her "Sunshine".
I have been blessed with a very long and happy life (thanks especially to my Mommy who rescued me from going to the SPCA when I was one-year old and living with Cyndi's sister Kathy). I would have turned 19 years on 3/20/09. My vet told me that I'm about 98 years old in "human-years".
I was named by Mommy's nephew Chris (then 7 years old) who had a crush on the prettiest girl in his class, Kalin. My cat mother was a calico cat named "Lady" (but she was no lady when she was in heat). I don't know who my cat father was but it was probably one of twenty or so male cats roaming our neighborhood in Oceanside. I had two brothers named Scooter and Bob. Back then I lived outside because I was scared of the big mean man inside. My life turned around for the best when I adopted Mommy who took me to her apartment in Vista, showed me my litter box and food bowl, whereupon I then climbed onto her sofa and purred myself to sleep. I gave special comfort to Mommy as she was then recovering from cancer in 1991. We have always been and will always be best friends. We have helped each other through tough times.
I was very active when I was younger. I was an extremely good jumper, and I was quick at attacking feathers, shoelaces, aluminum foil balls, and toy mice. I loved to chatter at birds, and was never afraid of any cats in my area. I was very good on a leash when Mommy used to walk me around the apartment complex.
In February of 1992, my future Daddy moved downstairs to an adjacent apartment. I was always skiddish and scared of male humans due to my previous experience with them. I learned to tolerate him when he was dating my Mommy for about 5 years. I am basically a one-person cat but I'm glad they finally got married five years later as now there are two people to own and provide me food. By the way, I have always been spoiled and I LOVE lobster, turkey, filet mignon, salmon, scallops, prime rib, chicken, and Fancy Feast. I love to eat and I always knew that when my folks came back in the evening with a white box, it was always loaded with good stuff for me! I would follow them into the kitchen and MEOW and MEOW until I got what I wanted!
Although I'm not a very sociable cat, I did make friends with SmokeyJo (a grey Persian cat who passed away in Feb 2004) and my good friend Blackie (A.K.A. Beebers) who lived next door and passed away last year in October. One of the best friends I ever met on the Internet was a cat named Skeezix; you can check out his famous website at: http://www.skeezixthecat.com. Our family have always daily visited his site for a daily laugh or sometimes a daily cry. I remember celebrating with hundreds of other cats on his September birthday in 2006! Skeezix sent us many party favors, including some catnip which my brother Shabby just loved!Although I was not particularly happy on the day that Shabby joined our family and starting sharing some of the prime space in the house, I will secretly tell you that he is one of the friendliest and loving cat brothers you could ever have. I love you Shabbers and I hope you give peace and enjoyment to Mommy and Daddy after I am gone.
As I mentioned before, I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2002. My Mommy has never failed to give me my daily shots as well as intravenous saline drips to combat recent dehydration. I have made great friends at the Melrose Veterinary Clinic and have been a loyal friend and client to them since forever. My favorite caretaker is a lady I call "Aunt Jeanie". My Mommy and Daddy would often take long trips at least once a year and leave me in their care. I have postcards that I have saved when they went to France and Italy.I used up one of my nine lives when I had a major cancer operation in 2007; Dr. Weinberg removed a malignant tumor that was blocking my intestines, and which prevented me from eating or going to the bathroom (#2). I gave everyone a big scare, but especially with the love of my Mommy and Daddy, as well as my Internet buddies, I made it through! I would like to extend my deepest cat gratitude to Dr. Richieri who has also been one of my primary caregivers for so many years. Thank you for everything you have done to keep me healthy for such a long time.
I am an American shorthair cat, and as such I am fiercely patriotic, and have strongly held my tail high and meowed with pride over the service of our armed service members, Olympic athletes, police and firefighters. I have bared my fangs and extended my claws to anyone who would bring harm to the good ole U.S. of A.I am proud to say that in 2003 I helped my Daddy discover a sequence of numbers (now called the Kalin Sequence: 2,4,2,4,6,2,6,4) that help explain the pattern of the prime numbers. For two consecutive nights, I used my tail-swishing (two flicks; four flicks, etc) to help him solve this age-old math problem that was just too easy for my superior cat intelligence. I am glad that a piece of me will live on in the Kalin Sequence.
My Mommy has a theme song she sings to me whenever she can -- the song is called "You Are My Sunshine". She likes to hold me close when she sings this. There is a song called "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias that whenever I hear, I always think about how my Mommy had saved me from a bad situation. My Daddy also refers to it as "The Kitty Song".
I love my Mommy and Daddy but I must leave them soon. Mommy said that Grandpapa Chuck and her brothers Scott and Stevie will be there to meet me at the Rainbow Bridge. I have been the best cat daughter I could be. I am eternally grateful for the great life I have lived, and the love, care and support I have received from my family and all my friends. Good bye and may we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge. Goodbye Mama. I love you.
Love,
Kalin Mae Garcia
